Self-employment the way to go
I have just read one of the recent articles by Steve Pavlina:
10 Reasons You Should Never Get a Job
I really recommend it but I want to say that it is not as simple as it might look like. Steve is talking about making a living out of blogging and I can tell you right now that if you don’t have something really valuable or interesting to tell others which will get many thousands of readers it will not be possible. There are many other systems on the internet that are more easier in my opinion.
I am both happy and proud that I am self-employed with my own company that I started myself. I am even more satisfied when I think of the goal of reaching a full passive income generating system for both my father and me by 2007. Then it will enable me to get back to the writing of my novels and some other interest I want to do such as travelling.
I actually believe I can make it.

While I know there’s more to generating income with a web site than Google’s AdSense program, are you not worried that it’s all just a big bubble? Something new or better will come out that will change the rules and make much of our work today no longer lucrative.
nice ideas u got for your life, I want to live of internet at the age of 18 (still got 2 mor years
), but who doesn’t?
Frankly, I am not worried. By 2007 I plan to have 100 web sites and by the rate it is going now I will make it. Links will always be needed for SEOs and webmasters and my new link program will provide quality relevant links on my network of sites. I have clients craving for links and I know that the demand is there.
Good luck Esteban! Hope you make it!
Jim,
I know for sure that you are a very smart guy, I too belive you will achive your goals. However (and this could end up in a really loooong discussion), putting all your egs in the same [type of] baset is generally not the way to go if you want to live of this kind of system for tens of years.
Maybe you have a plan to do so, but your income from the Internet will never be a life-long life-line if the money don’t first go in to a really safe investment (such as bonds) from which you make the actuall money you spend on a daily basis.
The best uf luck to you and congratulations so far!
Hi Björn and thanks.
There is something in what you are saying. Although I do not believe that SEO services and links will not be needed anymore something could happen. But this “something” has in this case be major such as the whole internet system being changed and SEO is no longer needed or something. If I then cannot make money on SEO, links and my web sites I guess the plan B would be to write and sell books and make a living out of that. This “something” would not happen in the next 10-20 years, at least … IMO.
Jim,
In a 10 year term I think you are right. Also, if you consider SEO consultancy to be a part of your plan I have no doubts. While I belive SEO will not look the same 2016, of course your business will changem along with it, just as it happens in any industry.
So, I guess my comment was mainly about the “passive income generating system”.
Btw, we should be out in the sun.
In terms of self employment just blogging, I thought it could be possible until I was banned from google adsense, but was only getting around 50c day. But thats life.
Need to live in a poor country with cheap internet access, I live in fiji but our internet access is expensive.
Hi Jim,
This is the first time I’ve read that article all the way through and it’s brilliant.
I realise I’m a year late, mwahahaah.
Doesn’t sound like you are really happy with what you are doing – since you want to quit it and go into writing novels. Maybe you should just start writing novels right away. Doesn’t look like the right piece of advice for someone who just wants to start being self-employed. Maybe, it would be better to start right from what makes you happy
