hi there.
in my country a web-master-forum made a seo contest. after a few months i wanted to join. i created a site and bumped back links. i mean in a few days i added my new contest-site to lots of toplists and my other high ranked pages. links from pr4-5 and also from high ranked forum footers. so the goal of contest is about becaming 1th site on google sarps with pre-told phrase. well. after 10 days my page is on the 9th place of google's first page in my searches around my country. your theory is damn true. google is trying my site's performance before indexing or taking it to a good place. (i know only 1 page indexed but site has 50~ pages) i told before it is a contest site so it has not much visitor. so big G can think it is a bullshit site.. so sandbox waits me. i sense it..
on other hand if the first site of contest take not much more visitors than me G can save my place... for example 1th site has 100 visitors daily and mine has ~30 maybe.. so if the formula is true with a black hat: got a "big bara boom" [as leeloo said before in "5th element" -sorry for useless words-] from G with lots of backlinks in a few days and make your content fresh -and last and- make really much visitor for saving yr ass rank of yr page in the list.

dear Jim im sorry of my bad english but i think u got the thought of me. i hope my site saves its position and gets higher till contest ends.. thank you for that good article...

Yes I have seen this. I worked hard to build myself a new blog or two with 10 articles on each, had great immediate results but then dropped off the charts. To this day those 10 articles are not even in the top 1000 for their keyowrds but new articles or whatever you want to call them do fine. You better get used to having all your stuff thrown in the trash in the beginning, this is the way it works sadly.
