New site design

Update, March 9th

I have now changed it again and put some color into it. What do you guys think?

Sunday today and I was away from work with clients so I decided to work with my blog today from home.

I made a new design for this site. Check out the navigation links at the top left (best with firefox). I am especially pleased that I managed to have 2 themes with the same blog. Check out here or here for example.

Most of the visitors to the home page probably only paid noticed to the last few post but I think that is changed now. And also there is no need to scroll like a crazy anymore :)

Any feedback?

I like it! It’s simple, easy to navigate and unique.

How should I put it? It looks pretty old skool to me .. sorta reminds me of early Atari .. but that probably doesn’t make sense :)

    Nice! I like it!

It disturbs me a little that the box with Google ads is wider than the other boxes. I would prefer that they all had the same width.

Apart from that it looks very nice!

I like that adsense is wider than the other boxes. Something I canīt understand is why “Home” and site-navigation donīt is both over the ad and over the article-settings.

“Home” should also be much wider! We want to go back to your main-site sometimes also!

Thanks for the feedback so far. The adsense is an experiement, I will probably remove it later on.

Agaton, so you mean that the site navigation box should be on the top and the article navigation on the bottom? Hmm …

The left sidebar is fixed i suppose. I cant see a part of it in bottom. Also i think a better idea is to do something with both both the boxes. The adsense box and both other boxes width is not same which doesnt look good. Either increase the width of both the boxes, or remove the adsense which will make the main area wider and better.

Not exactly. But a “back” link or a linked head-banner or something. The “home” - link is up in the left, in my mind.

Ok, now it should be better. I removed the adsense.

Just a quick note - trying to get from a blog post to home is awkward. The normal way is a link at the top or top left - i can only see one half way down the page on the left… just a idea… i think it would be easier to use if your home link was at the top… :/

I’m still not much of a fan of it. It’s still too simple for me and isn’t really attractive to the eye

I donīt like it so much.

    Hi,

It is supposed to be simple, that’s the whole point.

But I will look it over and perhaps improve it more.

Easy to navigate, and simple. I come to your site for the information and articles, not for the desig experience. And for that reason I think your design works fine.

One thing though, in the box with “Possible related articles” the text overflows the left border of the box. In IE7 that is.

And the text that I suppose should read “Leave a Comment” is missing the initial “L”.

  22. Jim Westergren said on March 29, 2007 at 11:52 pm

Thanks a lot Bernt. I made the design to try to lift up the content.

I made the fixes for IE7, forgot to check that.

    Thanks.
