The Influence Of TV

The increase in the popularity of programs such as Changing Rooms and various other housing and garden improvement shows have increased the visibility of your household skip. Couple this together with a booming construction industry, and Skip Hire has never been so popular.

However, with increased popularity comes increased safety risks and waste considerations, which have resulted in a raft of Health and Safety and Waste Management regulations. Safety of both workers, customers and the general public has been pushed to the forefront of an industry which has been the subject of some ridiculous compensation claims. Skips now have to be secured with Skip locks, made more visible with Skip lights and made less assessable to the fly tipper by using Skip nets.

We have also seen the introduction of a new improved range of Skip ramps and specific toughened Safety Clothing for both Skip Hire company employees, and customers. The government have also heaped an array of waste management regulations on the industry, which have reduced the amount of waste which can be sent to land fill sites. Many firms now operate their own Screen Trommel machines which sift and separate various types of waste, so that as much can be recycled as possible.

These new regulations and requirements have proved fairly expensive for the industry, with many of the “cowboy” firms not willing or able to raise the necessary funds to stay in business. Some of the more reputable firms have taken on Commercial Mortgages to allow investment in equipment and infrastructure, which has been a drain on resources.

There are many who are concerned as to how any further regulatory requirements can be financed by an industry which has seen costs rise in recent times. There have been a number of situations of larger firms taking over smaller competitors who are finding it more and more difficult to survive - more of this is expected in the future.
