Nordestinos' Migration to Cities
Nordestinos are what is called the local Brazilians living in North East Brazil. This area has a very arid climate that it is dry most of the year. There is scarcity of water in this part of Brazil that local politicians use this common problem to gain a seat in the local government by promising the nordestinos irrigation systems for their farms, homes and Property in North East Brazil. Because of corruption, the said promises have never been given to the locals, and many of them are trying their luck in the big cities like Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro in the hopes that the New developments in Brazil can, in a way, give them a much better life than what they have in their hometowns.
But they were wrong. The nordestinos came to the cities hoping for a better life with a better job and, in the long run, somehow save enough money and get some Help on buying property in Brazil from the local government so that they can permanently stay in the city. But coming to the city penniless and most of them with little to no education at all led them to the slums or favelas.
Most employers also claim to not have jobs available for them, their trust in the nordestinos almost nonexistent. The middle-class and upper-class society of Brazil also thinks that they are what brings the economy of the country down by scaring off potential investors from investing in Development projects in Brazil.
Because of the unfair treatment they have had and because of lack of proper education, most of them though resorted to stealing and begging just to live in the city. In the end, most of the nordestinos go back to their properties and homes in North East Brazil where they have a much better life than in the big cities.
